Setting the stage for Sunday
Highland, I hope your week is going well! I am looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. This Sunday, we continue to look at how we can move into our new facility in a “magnificent” way. That being said, the way to move magnificently is to take on the correct heart-posture toward what the Lord is doing in us and through us. Last Sunday, we saw what “bearing with the failings of the weak” (Romans 15; Isaiah 58) looks like, as a church relates to a community.
This Sunday, we will take another look at the word: bear as it relates to one another. In Romans 15, Paul tells us to pursue harmony with one another. So, this week, we will look at this passage, which serves as our direction as to how to strike harmonious tones with one another:
“Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:12–15).
I am excited to unpack this passage with you, Highland.
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY THURSDAY, 6:30pm
Our Women’s 8 Week Bible Study through 1st John continues this Thursday evening at 6:30pm. All women are invited to bring this study to a strong finish! There are only two weeks remaining, but do not let that stop you from jumping in! Come and be part of this wonderful group of ladies, as they gather round God’s Word together.
CHICKEN & RICE THIS SATURDAY, 10am
Our Chicken & Rice Team continues to hit our streets with such dedication each Saturday, at 10am! They offer our neighbors the opportunity to enjoy a meal, while offering them the love of Christ. Chili cheese dogs will be served! Volunteers are welcome! Thanks to all who make up this amazing team!
We will have some other events taking place this Saturday as well. The Roper family will be hosting a yard sale right in front of the cafe’ from 9am–1pm; pancakes might also be available, too! Volunteers are welcome to attend and everyone’s certainly welcome to come take a glance of the inventory.
Additionally, there’s a friend of Highland who’s started a Street Hockey League and it’s coming to our neck of the woods this Saturday. Check out this event at Anderson Village.
PLANS FOR SUNDAY MORNING
At the Firehouse each Sunday morning, we hold Coffee & Conversation from 9am until 10am. This is a time to spend together, getting to know each other. We also worship and share life together. Come grab a breakfast sandwich (Thanks, James Gamble!) and a hot cup of coffee this Sunday.
Robert’s Bible Study will also be taking place in the education wing of our church at 9am. It’s open to all men! Come and join the discussion around God’s Word.
Our Firehouse Gathering (church service) will be held at 10am, in the Firehouse. Please join us as we open God’s Word together, asking the Lord to shape our hearts in accordance with His Word. Noah Strickland will be leading us in worship and I will be preaching. I look forward to you joining us.
Childcare Available, Ages 0-4
Childcare will be offered during our Firehouse Gatherings for children, ages 0-4. Childcare will be held in the Truth Spring Trade School Daycare, located at 3303 5th Ave. It is the white house with white picket fence and 2 blue doors. We have a terrific team of volunteers comprised of people who attend Highland. Thank you, all, for caring for our children. Donna Findley is our Coordinator. She’s doing a great job! Thank you, Donna! Volunteers will be ready to receive 0-4 year-old aged-children by 9:50am.
Truth Spring Academy is now accepting applicants for the next school year. We have slots available in Kindergarten and potentially some slots available in other grade levels, too. Dear Highland Church Family,
Gary and I are so grateful to be a member of such a loving, caring and giving Church Family.
We appreciate every prayer that has been lifted up on our behalf. We rejoice that my mother, Joyce Bray, is now walking and dancing on streets of gold! The delicious meal provided by the church after her funeral was a blessing. I was so good and enjoyed by all!
With much love and appreciation,
Gary and Kathy Jordan
I love you, Highland. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
Grateful for each of you,
Rob
