In the Jesus Storybook Bible, the Genesis 3 account is entitled, "The terrible lie." Satan comes to Eve in the form of a serpent and entices her with a deceitful question about her relationship with the Lord.

It reads: “...the snakes' words hissed into her ears and sunk down deep into her heart, like poison. 'Does God love me?' Eve wondered. Suddenly she didn't know anymore. "Just trust me," the serpent whispered. "You don't need God. Just one small taste, that's all, and you'll be happier than you could ever dream."

The story continues: “Eve picked the fruit and ate some. Adam ate some, too. And a terrible lie came into the world that would not leave. It would live in every human heart, whispering to everyone of God's children: ‘God doesn't love me.’"

THE REAL LIE

This terrible lie that ‘God does not love me’ is real. You can hear it. Feel it. Believe it. Act on it. Respond to it. Being deceived by this lie is a state of reality for many.

Paul writes: “But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case, the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

2 Corinthians 4:3-4

It’s vital to note that, just the because the lie is real, does not make it true.

REAL LIFE

"The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 1:16

"For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."

John 3:16-17

God overcame the terrible lie with an everlasting truth - that He loves us.

Submitting to Christ as Lord, we get to exchange the real lie for real life. My hope is that you encounter the glory of the risen Christ and get to make this great exchange.
