Boxes of Love Was A Blast!

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner,
but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.
— Proverbs 14:21, ESV

Highland, thank you to those who took part in our 12th Annual Boxes of Love Ministry! We had the opportunity to bless 75 families with a box containing so many helpful household staples and tasty goods for this Christmas Season! To those who’ve given, organized, picked up, packed and delivered, know that you are GREATLY appreciated!

An especially loud shoutout to Megan Holbrook and Cassia Roper. Boxes of Love would not be possible without your resolve, dedication and your leadership! Heath family, the crosses were such a nice addition! Thanks for taking the time to make all of those for each recipient!

Highland, may we be known throughout our city by our love for Christ and our love for our neighbor! As we have been positioned to give in such generous ways, let us, like we did today, rise to the call of radically generous, God-glorifying living!

I love belonging to the Highland Fam!

Merry Christmas,

Rob

WE ARE GOING THROUGH 1ST JOHN TOGETHER

Here is our text:

“And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure .

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”

- (1 John 2:28-3:10, ESV)

From David & Kimberly Klaus

Highland family, Kimberly and I were so blessed to share with many of you last weekend how God is at work in Myanmar--right in the middle of a horrific civil war--through small and scrappy Kingdom initiatives that can "fly under the radar" of persecution and conflict. If there's any community in Columbus that appreciates the profound beauty of small and scrappy, it's this community! As we shared, God has nudged us to establish a small nonprofit organization (the "Living Water Network") to provide encouragement, resources, community, and connections to the many brave underdogs who are doing amazing things in Myanmar.

Some wonderful friends of ours have offered us a matching grant to help us get going: for every $1 we can raise in new funds before Dec. 31st, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $15,000. And they'll match any monthly donations set up before the end of the year according to the annual amount, so if you set up a $1 monthly donation before Dec. 31st, they'll give a $12 match! We'd humbly ask you to consider fellowshipping with the global body of Christ by contributing toward this matching grant. (And we have a number of non-financial ways to participate as well; please ask us about those if you'd like to help through prayer, advocacy, and mobilization.) Thanks so much to all of you for your encouragement, prayer, and support!

SUNDAY’S 10AM SERVICE AT THE FIREHOUSE

Noah strickland leads us in worship

When we finished up lunch last Sunday, Noah and I had a few moments to talk at the table. It ranged from Sunday’s service to plans for the week. It was a moment that was stiller than usual in a typically busy house-hold. He then grabbed the guitar and started plucking as background music to our conversation.

He started playing some riffs from Breakfast Choir songs - riffs I am not good enough to play - and it sounded great. Then, he asked if he could lead the church in a worship service one Sunday. I was so moved, Highland. My son, who has been raised at Highland, is hopeful to lead us in corporate-worship. It was a moment I will cherish forever! Not only is my son playing well and loving Highland-classics like, “Walk with Me, Lord”, but he is also a young man who seeks to personally walk with the Lord. The integrity and sturdy faith he displays makes me so proud of him! What more could a dad ask for than for his son to walk personally with Christ? There is no other who satisfies.

As Noah leads us this Sunday in worship, realize that we have all shared a part in raising him, Highland. We will all join with the Psalmist who said: “One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4).

I hope you all had a joyous Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for you.

I love you, Highland.

See you Sunday,

Rob

Happy Thanksgiving, Highland.

Highland,

Our hearts abound in joy over you! Carrie and I often recount the ongoing abundance of our Lord’s goodness that we find in you! We have endured so much together and we’re even stronger for it! Through the sealing and unifying work of the Spirit of God, we continue to experience ‘a hope that does not disappoint.’ We have all unified around His purposes and His preferences, not our own. As a result, His glory resounds in us – just a band of sinners boasting about the goodness of Jesus! I am so grateful to serve the Highland Family!

I love you, Highland,

Rob

A Strong Confidence

“In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence and his children have a refuge.”
— Proverbs 14:26

We rallied around these families last Sunday, as they dedicated their hearts and homes to be dwelling places of the Lord. Our children then can find rest in His presence, which is our peace and protection.

Just a few refreshers from our Dedication Service:

  • Our children need to see that we live devoted lives to Jesus.

  • Our children need to know the Word because we know the Word.

  • “Our children can tolerate our imperfections; they cannot tolerate our hypocrisy.” – Andy Merritt

Highland, let us continue to remain huddled around these families in prayer, love, support and a Christ-centered devotion, as they raise these little ones.

Grateful for ALL of our Highland children,

Rob
